Torch & Tinder Press is an independent publisher dedicated to freedom, truth, and cultural resistance.
We’re seeking Volunteer Staff Researchers to help ensure our work is precise, credible, and well-sourced. Researchers support writers and editors by fact-checking, locating primary and secondary sources, and preparing background briefs for ongoing projects.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct research to support essays, Core Collections, and Embers Quarterly.
Fact-check and verify references for accuracy and consistency.
Compile resource lists and annotated bibliographies.
Work collaboratively with editors and writers to provide timely, reliable information.
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who:
Is detail-oriented and comfortable navigating academic, journalistic, and archival sources.
Understands (or is eager to learn) citation standards (Chicago style preferred).
Can work independently and meet agreed-upon deadlines.
Shares our commitment to accuracy, cultural memory, and responsible publishing.
Bonus if you have:
Experience with fact-checking, library research, or academic work.
Familiarity with activist/grassroots publishing or independent media.
Ideal For
Students, retirees, librarians, academics, or independent researchers who want to apply their skills to a living press.
Writers or artists who also enjoy the behind-the-scenes work of building credibility and context.
